THE PIECE
Sized down for your kiddos! and made for sunny days — this extra wide hat will keep the rays off their cheeks and out of their eyes. It has the same fit and squared-off top as our Session Hat, but with a stiffer brim that can be molded to create a few different looks. Note: It still has a bit of flop to it. We've also added an easily removable chin strap, allowing you to adjust for a windy hike or relaxing pool day. Note: This brim does not have a wire in it.
FABRIC
Fiber Content: Upcycled Cotton woven by The New Denim Project
Sewn using reclaimed deadstock. What is that? It's unused fabric that has been abandoned for a handful of different reasons. Brands might overestimate their needs, a fabric mill accidentally produces too much, or a dye house creates the wrong color. Whatever the reason, there is nothing wrong with it and we’re happy to give it a new home.
SEWING
We currently produce our pieces in two locations. Our limited edition items are made in our San Diego studio, by a team of two. Everything else is sewn by a small factory based in Los Angeles, CA. California has some of the most environmentally friendly manufacturing laws anywhere in the world. Our inventory is created in settings that abide by these standards. We practice labor safety and well-being, while providing a fair California living wage.
CARE
As you should with all your textiles, treat this piece with care and it’ll stick around for a while. Here are some of our favorite practices: Wear your clothing multiple times between washes to reduce water and energy use. When needed, wash in cold water with a gentle cycle and let them air dry, to preserve fabric color and minimize stress on the fibers.
WASTE
You’d be surprised how much fabric is leftover after cutting a garment. We do our best to design and layout our patterns for maximum efficiency but there’s still loss. We feel it’s our responsibility to deal with this waste, so we've designed a few products that are sewn almost completely from these remnants.
SIZING
To get your kiddos circumference, wrap a measuring tape around the widest part of their head. If you don't have a measuring tape, a piece of string or floss and a ruler works too. This fabric has little to no stretch so if they’re in between sizes, we'd recommend going up. Take note that it has not been pre-shrunk.
